SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is an intimate portrait of the famed songwriter in his own words and music. Audiences get an inside look at the personal life and artistic process of the greatest composer-lyricist.

His story. His inspiration. His genius. Stephen Sondheim remained largely undiscussed, especially by the man himself, until the creation of Sondheim on Sondheim. Ranging from the beloved to the obscure, the carefully selected two-dozen songs hang from a framework of in-depth video interviews, delving into Sondheim's personal life and artistic process. Conceived by one of Sondheim’s closest collaborators James Lapine, it is a multimedia revue, incorporating original and archival commentary from the great man himself. Lapine describes the revue as 'a kind of impressionistic view of him that’s put together with pieces of archival footage and interview footage. It’s a collage of his life, in which who he is and how he got there comes in to focus’.

The revue features songs from nineteen Sondheim musicals, including well-known, less-known and cut material from shows produced over a 62-year period. The musicals represented include West Side Story, Company, Follies, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Sunday In The Park With George, Merrily We Roll Along, Passion, Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods and more.
